There’s something unforgettable about a day spent in Napa Valley wine country. Tucked between the Mayacamas and Vaca mountain ranges, the valley stretches about 30 miles from north to south, with vineyard-covered slopes rising gently on either side. The diverse terrain and dramatic backdrops make it a spectacular place to explore—and taste. If you're looking to discover the region in a fun, laid-back way, Platypus Wine Tours is a favorite among travelers who want more than just a tasting—they want the full, authentic experience.

Why Take a Guided Napa Wine Tour?

Sure, you can go it alone—but a guided tour removes all the guesswork. No designated driver stress. No wondering which wineries are worth the stop. With a local guide leading the way, you'll get a curated day of great wine, beautiful views, and stories that bring the region to life.

Small Groups, Big Perks

Platypus keeps things intimate. Our daily tours usually have 8–12 guests, so it never feels crowded or impersonal. Smaller groups make for a more relaxed, social experience—easy to chat with fellow travelers, ask questions, and enjoy the day without feeling like you're on a big bus tour.

Wineries You’d Probably Miss on Your Own

One of the best parts? We visit smaller-production, family-owned wineries that most tourists drive right past. These places are run by passionate people who love to share their wine—and their stories. Thanks to our relationships, tasting fees are discounted and typically around $25, and some are even waived with a bottle purchase.

What a Typical Day Looks Like

We’ll pick you up at your Napa lodging between 10:00 and 10:30am and head out for about 6.5 hours. You’ll visit three hand-selected wineries, enjoy a tasty picnic lunch, and take in the beauty of Napa Valley along the way. Between stops, your guide will share insights on winemaking, local history, and a few fun surprises.

A Few Tips to Make It Even Better

  • Book early—especially in peak seasons

  • Eat a good breakfast before the tour

  • Stay hydrated during the day

  • Buy wine if you love it—it supports small producers but mostly you won’t be able to get it back home.

  • Ask questions and get curious

  • Snap some pics, but don’t forget to just enjoy the moment

More Than Just Wine

It’s not unusual for guests to start the day as strangers and leave as new friends. Something about the shared experience—great wine, beautiful scenery, and a bit of adventure—has a way of bringing people together.

Ready to Go?

Platypus offers daily Napa wine tours starting at $129 (Sunday–Friday) and $139 on Saturdays. That includes transportation, a charming and knowledgeable guide, a tasty picnic lunch, and a memorable day exploring the backroads of wine country. Tasting fees are additional.

Whether you're a seasoned wine lover or just here for the views and good company, this is one of the most authentic—and easy—ways to experience Napa.
